CRITERION 1: EVIDENCE
Documentation of race, culture, and content from diverse peoples in EDLD 673 syllabus and EDLD 675 syllabus.
(a) Course Evaluations showing need for improvement and subsequent improvement: Spring 2020EDLD 665 and EDLD 673; Fall 2020EDLD 665 Spring 2021EDLD 665 and EDLD 673 Fall 2021 EDLD 650-01, EDLD 650-82, and EDLD 673 (b) Regarding absence of course evaluations for Summer 2021: I chose not to teach in order to focus on my physical and mental health. (c) Part of the lack of organization of content and materials was due to not utilizing the D2L system effectively. As shown in the evidence section of Criterion 3, I took all available trainings and met with Elizabeth Harsma several times to review my content for each of my courses to ensure I was optimizing the system. These trainings led to seven newly established routines (underlined links contain evidence/examples): (i) posting the class powerpoint in D2L and making it visible; (ii) creating checklists and rubrics for every assignment listed in the syllabi (iii) programming D2L to make viewing rubrics mandatory before submitting assignments; (iv) embedding post-it notes within the texts of student assignments; (v) adding a recall strategy at the beginning of each class and an exit ticket to assess what they learn and how they will apply what they learned; (vi) using more small group/breakout sessions; (vii) before each class running through the syllabus and assignments and after each class reviewing class notes and adjusting the syllabus accordingly, sending messages, or whatever else needs to be done for class follow up. Evidence of improved syllabi: Before (Fall 2021 EDLD 673) and after (Spring 2022 EDLD 673).
Documentation of high-quality teaching via above-average ratings and written student feedback through university and supplemental mid-term evaluations (evidence of steps taken to improve evaluations are located in Criterion 3): Narrative Student Evaluations EDLD 650 (01/82) Fall 2020 Strengths - I appreciate the effort made for the technology we have to work with. I know it isn't her strong suit, but she is trying and she expressed to us that she took a class herself this summer to learn more about it. I think both Bernadia and Julianne did a great job of creating meaningful conversation and took a great personal interest in all of the students and their learning. I think sometimes class time was not used as well as it could have been. Weakness - There was a lot of disorganization throughout the course. Comments on grading procedures and exams: I thought the grading was fair and gave great and constructive feedback. I liked the fast turn around with grades. One year later: EDLD 650 Fall 2021 (course combined) Strengths - Dr. Johnson is a good instructor with many relevant experiences in the field of education. Her knowledge is extremely helpful as she contributes to class discussions. Weakness - Dr. Johnson has some issues with online learning and it's never a significant issue, but would flow better if someone assisted her.(a TA to help, attend mnsu zoom training sessions) Comment on the grading procedures and exams. I think things are evaluated as they should be.
EDLD 672 (82) Fall 2016 Strengths-Dr. Johnson gave good examples of situations she had encountered as a school superintendent. Weaknesses-providing timely feedback on completed assignments Comments on grading procedures and exams: Assignments were not graded in a timely manner. Completed most assignments before ever receiving even one graded assignment back, therefore, hard to know what the professor was looking for in terms of feedback. Grading procedures were very clear and thorough. EDLD 672 (83) FAll 2016 strengths - Amazing amount of practical, related experience. weakness - More examples from real world Would love to hear more of your perspective in class. Comment on the grading procedures and exams: Work felt like it applied and was meaningful. The workload was perfect for working professionals. Wealth of knowledge and passion for the subject. Supportive and challenging for students. Didn’t know about combining courses.
